Get a Consultation for Advanced Surface Ablation In Las Vegas

Living with poor vision isn't just difficult, it's dangerous. While some patients may not meet the requirements for LASIK surgery, there is another option we provide at Brimhall Eye. Known as Advanced Surface Ablation, the surgery corrects many forms of eye conditions, like nearsightedness or astigmatism, without the need for a microkeratome blade. This makes patients who fear the blade or invasive nature of LASIK surgery more comfortable and helps them achieve similar results.

What Is Advanced Surface Ablation?

Advanced Surface Ablation is a technique that helps patients see better without LASIK surgery. This surgery doesn't require using a microkeratome blade and reduces the risk of surgery to the eye. Using a local anesthetic, our surgeon removes the surface layer of the eye with a laser. The cornea is then reshaped, correcting your vision.

What Should Patients Know About the Procedure?

The primary thing to be aware of is that it does not correct age-related farsightedness, but it can improve nearsightedness, astigmatism, and farsightedness. The procedure may eliminate these conditions or dramatically improve them.  After surgery, patients need to have transportation waiting. It is not safe for patients in Southwest, Northwest Las Vegas, or Tenaya to drive after the procedure.

Is There a Long Recovery Time After ASA Surgery?

For most patients, the answer is a resounding no. This surgery has a very short recovery period, although you'll heal naturally and see improvements in your vision for around the next six months.

After ASA surgery, our doctor in Las Vegas will speak to you about wearing a bandage; this bandage is a contact lens that protects the eye. You'll have to wear the contact for a few days following the surgery and use prescription eye drops that prevent infection. These eye drops also prevent your eye from drying out, which helps it heal more effectively.

Patients are normally back to their daily activities within a few days. Everyone heals at a different rate, but you should not notice a long recovery.
