Advanced Surface Ablation (ASA)
If you suffer from nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism, you may be a candidate for advanced surface ablation, or ASA. ASA is a minimally invasive procedure that is ideal for patients who are not candidates for or do not want LASIK eye surgery. Unlike other procedures, ASA does not require a microkeratome blade, minimizing the risk associated with eye surgery.
Advanced Surface Ablation is performed in our eye center using a local anesthetic. During the procedure, your Las Vegas eye surgeon removes the surface layer of the eye using a precise laser. Your surgeon then reshapes the cornea using a laser in order to correct your vision.
Advanced Surface Ablation Information
Like LASIK eye surgery, ASA requires little downtime. In fact, most patients will notice corrected vision within the first few days after surgery. Over the following six months, vision will continue to improve. After the surgery, your eye surgeon will ask you to wear a “bandage” contact lens for a few days, and you’ll likely be given prescription eye drops to prevent infection and help keep the eyes from drying out. While you’ll need a ride from your procedure, you will likely be back to your day-to-day routine within just a few days.
Like LASIK, ASA does not treat presbyopia, or age-related far-sightedness. Patients who need reading glasses prior to the procedure will still need those glasses after. That said, nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism will be dramatically improved, if not eliminated through ASA.
